A study was done on implants that were immediately placed in the socket after an extraction to evaluate and determine risk factors on the survival percentage of implants. The method taken was by placing the implant in the fresh extraction site with bone and resorbable barrier to cover the uncovered implant threads. Overall the implants survival rate was 96%, with a 3.7% failure rate before restoration and a 0.3% after restoration. It seemed that males were 1.65 times more likely to have implant failure. Where teeth were removed for periodontal issues and implants were placed in the sites it was 2.3 times more likely to fail than any other type of site. Patients were 3.34 more times likely to experience implant failure when not being able to use pre-surgical amoxicillin as patients who received amoxicillin. It seems to have no significant differences in implant failure rates dependent on current tobacco usage, smoking history, noted medical conditions or patients age, in this study. IJOMI 2006
